Alison AlterDr. Alison Alter connects ideas, opportunities, and people to achieve meaningful results.

Throughout her career, she has launched projects, raised funds, distributed awards, and encouraged participation for both local and globally focused initiatives. Alison also has stewarded programs through ongoing growth and change.

  • She has extensive development and program management experience working with corporations, foundations, nonprofits, governments, universities, and individuals.
  • Alison excels at quickly grasping connections across complex challenges or disciplines and helping others to capitalize on these possibilities.
  • She has identified opportunities and facilitated learning and action in a diverse range of areas: social entrepreneurship, education, leadership, food security, energy, global governance, international law, arts and sciences, community organization, public policy, and child development.

She is passionate about the power of education and the value of extending lifelong learning opportunities to all.

In her advising practice, Alison draws on over 20 years of experience working in higher education and the nonprofit sector. She taught political economy and international public policy at Harvard, Stanford, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She served as a director of strategic planning, managing director, and associate director at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Wisconsin - Madison, as well as a development director at the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences Arts and Letters. She has demonstrated a commitment to her community, chairing park renovation projects and contributing to various boards of directors.

Alison obtained her Ph.D. in Political Economy and Government at Harvard University and her B.A. in Public Policy from Stanford University. She speaks five languages and has lived overseas in Italy, France, Germany, Norway, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Spain.
